6 Reasons Why Good Health Is Good For Relationships

Ralph Waldo Emerson once stated, “Health is the greatest wealth.”

How true.

But unfortunately, far too many of us are operating at a “deficit.”

Blame it on computers and more sedentary lifestyles; overindulgence in fast food restaurants due to hectic schedules; or simply a lack of awareness regarding healthy practices.

Consider the following statistics:

According to CNN.COM, obesity among adults in America has doubled between 1990 and 2010.

Annual medical care costs of obesity exceed $140 billion.

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention reports that cigarette smoking causes more than 480,000 deaths each year in the U.S.

Smoking is the leading premature cause of death.

Being overweight and obese can be a risk factor for developing certain ailments and diseases such as: heart disease, Type 2 diabetes, some Cancers and high blood pressure.

But, there’s good news. Though we can’t always control hereditary factors, fate, or an affinity for chocolate, there are some active measures we can take to provide for better health.

HERE’S WHY WE SHOULD

1. Good health allows us to experience good relationships. The better we feel, the better our moods, (typically), which makes us more pleasant to be around and interact with. Have you ever been around a person who perpetually complains about aches and pains? Or who snaps at you because they are always irritable? It can definitely put a damper on the fun factor.

2. Good health contributes to better stamina, strength, and vitality. It allows us to engage in physical activities without restrictions and limitations.

3. Good health allows us to be independent, and not require others (or external factors) to provide for our daily care; it shows consideration for those we care about.

4. Good health provides for greater longevity and a better quality of life.

5. Good health saves money. That’s right. It can prevent costly medication, the expense of constant doctor’s visits, and high insurance premiums.

6. Good health enhances appearance. Consider the girl with glowing skin, the stud with the six pack, and those with sleek figures that allow them to look awesome in any clothing they wear.  “When you look good, you feel good.”

With this in mind, here are a few simple, quick tips, for long lasting impact and optimal health.

Take little steps. Like many other things in life, a gradual approach is best. Start by consuming more fruits and vegetables each day and eating in moderation.

If you smoke, quit.

Don’t like exercise? Consider alternatives. For instance, I love dancing. Did you know that dancing is also a fun way to burn calories and stay in shape? Consider taking a Zumba class in your area. Or perhaps bowling or swimming would be more to your liking.  Something is better than nothing.

Drink more water. It’s good for the skin and it flushes out impurities.

Get adequate rest. Experts recommend about eight hours nightly.

Own a pet. Health studies show that having one provides various health benefits and provides a sense of companionship.

The greatest gift you can give to yourself and your partner is good health– mental, emotional and physical.
