Truly enjoy almost all types of active vs. passive activities (TV...and yes I do watch it). Also reading, books on tapes and listening to PRI/NPR. I do volunteer activities, including basset rescue and will not foster...I know my limits, 2. Looking for someone that will understand my responsibility toward my pets, and hopefully would come to appreciate them as well.

Adopted Lace then Jasper three weeks later from BROOD (Basset Rescue of Old Dominion). Lace is now about 7 and has both brains and beauty (it was love at first site...for me). She is athletic, has a fantastic nose and great sense of hearing (good watch dog). Jasper is about 3 year older and is just a big 'ole hugga-bubba. Not built for speed, Jasper looks like a bunny hopping if he is 'running' toward a treat. Yet, he has me wrapped around his big 'ole paw.

She can be tough at times, makes sure we have healthy food and good medical care. But we know what we can get away with. We can bark for her attention and she can ignore us...but if we roll over for a belly rub (and it took Jasper 18 months to realize it worked) she almost always will get a silly smile on her face and kneels down to oblige.

Must be non-smoker (deal breaker) and appreciate my pets. I desire someone that would enjoy various activities and is open to trying something they might not have done before (I down hill ski, and would be willing to take a snowboarding lesson or try cross-country skiing). I enjoy walking and may take a hike at area park OR downtown. I also enjoy music and try to broaden my horizons by borrowing various types of music CDs from library. I also play pinochle and would be willing to teach. I want someone that also enjoys other people (at least family/friends/neighbors). I’m not looking for a relationship full of drama/conflict. Lace would enjoy someone to walk, track and just play with. Jasper has a different activity level and will take 30 minutes to walk a block, resting as necessary. Recently Jasper got 'hung-up' on a parking lot bumper. He climbed up on it with his front paws and rather than walking around it continued over. His back paws/legs didn't have enough length to hit the ground. So he would rather be groomed, massaged, and receive treats (he actually will get a gleam in his eye when he is around treats.

I had adopted her from MD-SPCA. A basset with papers (both AKC and news). Smurf was 8 months old and had a hearing impairment (during obedience training I used voice and sign signals). She was a Pets-on-Wheels volunteer and did agility. No, basset and agility is not an oxymoron! When she was 12 it was the toughest decision I ever had to make. It took me a while before adding another fur-kid/friend to my life. Neither Lace nor Jasper are like each other or like Smurf. I wouldn’t change any of them.
