I teach high school and think it's the only job I could ever be happy doing. My students tell me I'm strict, but fair, and they learn lots in my class. My friends tell me I'm generous, insightful, and the one who calls them on their bullshit.

Zoom is a 3 year old border collie/fox terrier mix. He's shy around strangers, but adores people he's accepted as pack. Generally submissive, he's easy going, loves to play. Agility and hiking are two of his favorite activities. Zoe is my eldest rescue cat at age 10. She doesn't like anyone but me. Birch is a seven year-old rescue brought in to the household as a playmate for a housemate's cat. He's rather neurotic, but very sweet, although a bit shy. Bishop is a five year-old rescue. He's a dog-cat, brought in to the household as a playmate for Birch once previous housemate moved out. He and Zoom are also playmates. Bishop is fearless, completely affectionate, and loves people.

Zoom would tell you that he best part of his day happens when I come home from school, or when I wake up but don't get dressed immediately, because that means he has for me for the rest of the day. He'd say I was trustworthy, that he can rely on me to take care of him and protect him. Zoe would tell you that she wishes she had me all to herself and her favorite times with me are the dark, early morning hours when I'm just waking up and spend time scritching her ears. Birch would tell you that his favorite time with me is when I'm reading e-mail or typing up lesson plans, as he sits across my lap. He's probably pretty thankful that I didn't leave him on the side of the freeway. Bishop would tell you that no matter how many fuzzies I have in my life, I always have room in my heart, and my bed, for one more. He'd tell you he's pretty amazed that I insist that everyone gets along and they actually listen.
