This is what Gioia & Spanky (we are adopted English Springer Spaniels who live with him) have said about me: He has wide-ranging interests, experiences, and curiosity. Initially, we thought he was a bit shy but soon we discovered that he really enjoys being with those who honor openess, curiosity, and the value of all sentient life. His interests are seemingly eclectic but there are underlying themes that unite them. He is a long-term Zen meditator, vegetarian, and health nut. He has a unique background, including his diverse educational experience and career choices. He is now very happy working as a health scientist and loves the latitude this vocation affords him. On the other hand, he has a peculiar sense of humor that unfortunately includes an appreciation of what might be called primitive humor. He is crazy about Smarty Jones and Thoroughbreds in general, with a particular interest in older, retired Racers (colts/stallions & fillies/mares). He remains haunted by the extraordinary circumstances of Ruffian's last living moments: She was so very game & beautiful.

Their beauty, vulnerability, and loving kindness made (make) them irresistible. Spanky loves to sleep on his back, next to me in bed, with his head resting on the pillow and his legs sticking straight up. Gioia greets me by finding a squeaky toy and running around Spanky and me in circles, happy simply to have me stroke her as she races around us.

He's incredibly dedicated to us but sometimes grows frustrated with us when we do not listen to him or ''disrupt'' his routine. He's a very mindful and courteous person who nevertheless has strong opinions, reads a lot, likes to listen to live music, loves being together in silence as much as enjoys intense conversation, and is health-conscious. He has dashing good looks, wide-ranging interests, experiences, and a strong sense of curiosity. He is fundamentally opposed to the wearing of American baseball caps but appreciates them if they bear the name of a Thoroughbred, e.g., Ferdinand , Smarty Jones, Lion Heart, Manistique (Gorgeous mare), or Excellor. He loves the outdoors, unspoiled nature, Smarty Jones, Ruffian (R.I.P.), Ferdinand (R.I.P.), Lion Heart, free-flowing conversation, anything to do with Italy or things Italian, reading, critical theory and thinking, sailing, walking and not driving, quiet times together when speaking is not necessary, being as opposed to doing together, and fog.
